detailed friends car

yesterday, i helped out a friend detailing his black metallic car.
we did a full detailing and it was great to collect experience.

we did following (to the paint):
0) wash
1) clay
2) ultimate polish where it was need (goal: removal of scratches and oxidation)
3) ultimate polish as gloss finish (goal: add gloss due to oils in the polish)
4) gold class wax 1 layer (not sure if it can stacked like the M16)

- we applied everything by hand
- before and after applying products we inspect the paint with a spotlight




conclusion
the final result was "good", but unfort. we were not able to remove all the scratches by hand.
but the swirls / scratches does not hide the metallic flakes anymore and they really pop out now.

what i have learned from this project
1) ultimate compound is good to remove oxidation / some light - medium scratches
2) for heavy scratches we might have should also give scratchX a try
3) and / or use a polish machine on the scratches only.
4) ultimate polish is good to adds gloss & remove light scratches
5) deep crystal polish step2 instead of UP would have make more sense after UC (as less aggressive)
6) the spotlight was a very useful help to see before/after and if we have worked clean.


explanation of the deep scratches
owner stated he did use spray-on products to clean his car on road trips esp. on the back of the car.
thats where we found the deep scratches, which did hide the metallic flakes.

on my previous car, which i bought brand new and owned for three years, washed once a week by hand i was able to remove ALL scratches just by hand with ultimate compound.
i never used spray-on products and i think thats the major reason why i did not had deep scratches.



conclusion & learned for the upcoming detailing job of the M3
i will also detail my M3 soon.
i will use "deep crystal polish step 1" and "deep crystal polish step 2" as polish and M16 as wax at least 2 layers.

but other products i will keep by my side so i can try to correct scratches if there are any after step 1.

my main goal is to maintain the gloss of the paint in the future with "deep crystal polish step 2" since its not an aggressive polish because from what i know the polish only contains oils (correct me if im wrong).
since from my experience of my prev car i will only have very light scratches on the paint, i think this is the way to go for me and for me the concept.
